[Soks] Some counter thoughts

Hello, I've been playing with the new counter stuff you have in CVS at the moment. Random comments follow. >From watching all the activity in the logs, I got scared and changed the update frequencies from :min -> :hour Popular Pages was 1.5MB after only a couple days. After a restart this morning to grab the new Prolific Viewer counter changes, Ruby pegged the CPU and kept oscillating between 80MB and 180MB. (I killed it, manually removed the Popular Pages files, and it restarted fine.) Some of our page names are really long, and thus, the Popular Pages table renders poorly (and probably because I have some old hacked-up CSS and views, it overwrites the sidebar menu). It might be better to clip the title after some number of characters? (The same idea might also be applied to the "links to this page" section of the menu bar?) Because crawlers hit our site every night, it would be nice to have the option to only show the top X entries worth of counter data. Page-visit counter on individual pages? (maybe just the home page?) Have counters indicate when they started, i.e., page visits since [some start date].
