Whats new?

I’ve just noticed that it is almost a year since I made the last release of soks. I’ve been writting up my graduate thesis, so development has stalled although I still use soks everyday. There are plenty of known bugs, but because none of the affect me, I probably won’t get to them until I have finished my thesis (by this Christmas). However, I’m still available and reading mail, so if you have a question, feel free to contact me at tamc@rubyforge.comtamc.

Version 1.0.3

This release fixes a bug that prevented uploads working well with IE 6.0. Otherwise changes are mainly to the default look and feel: pre blocks are coloured, img tags are allowed to be as wide as they desire, ‘pages that link here’ has been replaced with a ‘see also’.

  • In the default template, changed the ‘pages that link here’ to ‘see also’ and only include pages that are not linked to from that page.
  • Removed the max-width limit for images on the default stylesheet
  • Removed the td style from the default stylesheet
  • Altered default stylesheet to improve the look of pre tags

www.soks.org moved to new host

www.soks.org has moved to a new host. Still a virtual host, so not that fast. But now has 128MB ram and is running xen. If you have any problems, please contact me tamc@soks.org

Soks 1.0.2 released

This release fixes some bugs. The most important of which are that pages no longer link to themselves, and the automatic summaries now ignore the ‘event’ parameter and always update themselves when a page is revised.

See changes to soks-stable for details.

Switch from CVS to Darcs

I have changed the version control system used to develop Soks from CVS to Darcs. That means that the source code is no longer kept at www.rubyforge.org, but is instead at www.counsell.org/darcs. Packaged releases will still be made at rubyforge. The reason for the change is that Darcs works more like I do: it records changes across multiple files together, it allows ‘off-line’ changes to be recorded and merged later and it makes managing fixes acrosss branches very easy.

There are now three repositories:

There is a repository browser at http://www.counsell.org/darcs. If you wish to download the code without using darcs, take a look at http://www.counsell.org/darcs/soks-stable.

Version 1-0-1 released

This is a minor bugfix release. See how to install soks, or how to upgrade soks for instructions. There is a full list of changes but in brief, this fixes:

However, there are still plenty of known bugs, although none of them should cause much problem day to day.

Version 1-0-0 released

It gives me great pleasure to announce the sixth public release of Soks as v1-0-0. There have been a lot of changes, and much of Soks has now stabalised so I’ve decided to call it a beta rather than an alpha. When I iron out a few more bugs I might even be confident in calling it stable.

See how to install soks, or how to upgrade soks for instructions. There is a full list of list of changes and some known bugs, but in brief:

  • Page titles can now have any punctuation, and the wiki urls look slightly prettier.
  • Two new RSS feeds, one of which contains all the pages linked to from a particular page, the other that includes edits made to the contents of linked pages. These are both useful in conjunction with the automatic summary classes.
  • Some popular pages, authors, visitors counters (not enabled by default)
  • The wiki can now save cache of page data and views when the wiki is shutdown. This makes starting the wiki again much faster.

I’m going to make a new release of Soks very soon, so I’m editing the content of this site to reflect that release and it will no longer be correct for users of v-0.0.7.

Should be ready by the end of the weekend, if you have any queries in the mean time, drop me a note at tamc2@cam.ac.uk

Thanks

tamc

I’ve decided to change the version numbering scheme from the next release to reflect the one specified at http://docs.rubygems.org/read/chapter/7.

Releases will be numbered as: “feature change.feature add.bugfix”

The next release will be 1.0.0 because the way the way settings are specified has changed.

Hopefully this will make upgrading smoother and clearer.
